Ferrari Watch Partnerships

Watch partnerships in Formula 1 can sometimes reveal different patterns when viewed within a common chronology. One example involves Scuderia Ferrari, and the watch brands that have appeared on their Grand Prix cars.

The history of Ferrari and watch brands has been covered extensively in recent years, but viewing those relationships against the backdrop of the entire Formula 1 grid can reveal something less obvious: these partnerships were often not exclusive.

In the early 1970s, Heuer branding was on BRM as well as Ferrari machinery. The Longines logo later appeared on both Ferrari and Renault Formula 1 cars from 1981 to 1985. The Italian team’s current watch partner, Richard Mille, also has a long term partnership with the scuderia’s old rival, McLaren.

One additional observation can be made by zooming out beyond Formula 1. Hublot‘s previous partnership with Ferrari has also overlapped with its sponsorship of the Reale Avintia Racing MotoGP team in 2020. The result was a relatively rare instance of a watch brand appearing on both Grand Prix grids at the same time.
