STADLIN draws its heritage from Swiss watchmaker Franz Ludwig Stadlin, who was known as the Imperial watchmaker under the Kangxi Emperor during the Qing dynasty. During his tenure, Stadlin made exclusive watches, astronomical instruments, and art objects for the Imperial family.
The modern STADLIN brand was founded in 2006, and initially offering men’s and women’s collections. The FL Stadlin Praha Edition was released around this time. Sometime in 2008, the brand split into Stadlin Uhren AG and Atelier Stadlin GmbH. The latter was described as a “production workshop who also offers its services to other Swiss watch brands”, according to a news update on the website.
According to a Reddit thread, the brand closed down in 2016.
Lotus?
A STADLIN chronograph with a Lotus logo on the 6 o’clock subdial has appeared in a Uhrforum thread. According to the post, the watch was produced in 2007 with a limited run of 100 pieces. While the information cannot be independently confirmed, a 2007 release would likely be tied to the automotive manufacturer, since the Lotus name was not on the Formula 1 grid that year.
Jim Clark Limited Edition
Stadlin produced a Jim Clark limited edition watch in or around 2012. A total of 25 numbered pieces were produced, and 1/25 was sold through Bonhams during that year. The green and yellow dial was inspired by the Team Lotus Type 25 and featured the #8, Jim Clark’s name, and “World Champion 1963 1965” on the small seconds subdial. A 1:43 scale die-cast model of the Type 25 was also included.
The auction listing also states that the watch was approved by Jim Clark’s family, and all proceeds from the sale were to be donated to the Jim Clark Room in Duns, Scotland.
