Thierry Boutsen is a Belgian businessman, motorsport executive, and former racing driver who competed in Formula 1 from 1983 until 1993. He has three Grand Prix victories to his name, and 12 additional podiums.
Arrows
Boutsen began his Formula 1 career with Arrows at the 1983 Belgian Grand Prix, and remained with the team until the end of the 1986 season. His best result with the team was a second place at the 1985 San Marino Grand Prix, his only podium finish with the team.
Benetton
The Belgian driver was signed by Benetton for 1987 and 1988. He scored six podiums total with the team and finished 4th in the overall standings in 1988, which would be a career high.
Williams
Boutsen spent the next two seasons with Williams, and scored his first Formula 1 win with the team at the 1989 Canadian Grand Prix. His stint with the British outfit would result in all three of his Grand Prix victories. Despite his on-track success, Williams opted to replace him with Nigel Mansell after the 1990 season.
Ligier
After his Williams exit, Boutsen was signed by Ligier for 1991 and 1992. Consigned to driving uncompetitive machinery for two seasons, his only points finish came with his last race with the team.
Jordan
Boutsen was signed to race for Jordan alongside a young Rubens Barrichello in 1993, which would turn out to be his last year in Formula 1. He only competed in ten rounds and failed to score points.
Rodania
Records appear to indicate that Boutsen began a partnership with Rodania sometime in the 1980s. A number of Thierry Boutsen edition watches were produced through as late as 2000. The Belgian driver also appeared in several ads for the Swiss brand during that time.
