Cabestan was founded in 2003 by Swiss designer and watchmaker Jean-François Ruchonnet, who has previously worked for Chopard and also designed for brands like Breguet, De Grisogono, and TAG Heuer. The brand Cabestan was named after the capstan from yachts.
While details are not well documented, Cabestan appears to have shut down around 2021. The final snapshot on Wayback Machine was from June 20, 2021 while social media accounts show no activity since fall of 2020.
Partnership with Ferrari
Ferrari announced a partnership with Cabestan in 2010 to jointly design and produce the Scuderia Ferrari One, in celebration of the Italian team’s Formula 1 history. Designed by Jean-François Ruchonnet, the unconventional timepiece was released in a limited edition of 60 pieces: 30 in black and red, and 30 in black and yellow. Features include a vertical tourbillon, fusée and chain transmission, and a yachting-inspired winch system for winding the movement as well as changing the time.
This highly limited model was available exclusively to Ferrari owners.
