U-BOAT was founded in 2000 by Italo Fontana, and is based in Tuscany, Italy. According to the company website, the founder’s grandfather Ilvo Fontana was commissioned to design watches for the Italian Navy in 1942. Technical drawings of the unused designs ultimately served as the inspiration for the first U-BOAT models, which share the visuals of a large left-hand crown.
Pramac Racing
U-BOAT was announced as an official partner of the Octo Pramac Racing team for the 2017 MotoGP season. Danilo Petrucci, who raced for the Tuscany-based team that year, featured in a promotional video, with teammate Scott Redding also appearing in social media posts. 2018 rider Jack Miller has also promoted the brand.
The U-BOAT Pramac limited edition watch was announced in the same year, and was based on the brand’s Classico collection. The Pramac logo featured prominently on the dial.
While the length of the partnership is not well documented, several Instagram posts in 2018 suggests that it ran for at least two years.
