Juan Pablo Montoya Roldán (born September 20, 1975) is a Colombian racing driver who competed in Formula 1 from 2001 to 2006. He has a total of seven F1 wins and a total of 30 Grand Prix podiums.
Williams
Already contracted as a test driver with Williams at the time, he was signed in mid-2000 to replace British driver Jenson Button for the following year. Montoya rewarded the team by winning the 2001 Italian Grand Prix in his debut season along with three additional second place finishes.
McLaren
Montoya remained with Williams until the end of 2004 before signing with McLaren for 2005 and 2006 as Kimi Räikkönen‘s teammate. 2005 saw the Colombian stand on the top step of the podium no less than three times. However, Montoya was involved in an eight-car accident on the opening lap of the 2006 United States Grand Prix and opted to leave F1 immediately after the race.
Audemars Piguet
Audemars Piguet released the Royal Oak Offshore Juan Pablo Montoya limited edition in 2004. The timepiece came in rose gold (ref. 26030RO.OO.D001IN.01) and titanium (ref. 26030IO.OO.D001IN.01) versions, with the latter featuring subdial hands in the colors of the Colombian flag. A platinum version was also produced with a blue dial (ref. 26030PO.OO.D021IN.01).
TAG Heuer and Fundación Fórmula Sonrisas
Montoya was a TAG Heuer ambassador during his stint with McLaren, and has featured in ads for the Carrera and Aquaracer.
A 200-piece limited edition TAG Heuer Formula 1 (ref. CAC1113.BA V11478) features the logo of Fundación Fórmula Sonrisas (Formula Smiles), which was founded in 2003 by Montoya and his wife Connie Freydell. “Carrera de Estrellas 2005“, a kart race that raised funds for the organization, is also engraved on the case back.
Artisans de Genève
The Colombian driver worked with Swiss watchmaking workshop Artisans de Genève to create a custom Rolex Daytona-based skeletonized chronograph called the La Montoya. Unveiled in 2018, the first ever La Montoya was available for sale as a limited edition of 50. The La Montoya Gold, a gold version, was also announced the following year with a limited run of 42 pieces.
The La Montoya Platinum was announced in 2020, the same year that Rolex notified Artisans de Genève of possible trademark infringement. Possibly due to the timing, the La Montoya Platinum was announced as a piece unique.
Montoya and Artisans de Genève unveiled a fourth custom model in July of 2025, named the La Montoya Rose.
