Movado was founded in 1881 by Achille Ditesheim in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The Ditesheims were a family of watchmakers who owned several companies in the area, and in 1892 Achille and his brothers combined their businesses to form L.A. & I. Ditesheim, Fabricants.
Shortly after the turn of the 20th century, the company was renamed Movado after the Esperanto word for “always in motion”. Movado briefly had some shared history with Zenith when Movado-Zenith-Mondia Holding Horloger SA was founded in 1969 in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Movado was purchased by North American Watch Corp in 1983 and is currently based in New Jersey.
Ferrari
Just months after the Hublot and Ferrari partnership was announced in late 2011, Ferrari announced a licensing agreement with Movado Group on March 26, 2012. The first examples made their debut at Baselworld 2013. The timepieces, which included the Formula Italia line, did not feature Movado branding on the watch. They were sold in Ferrari’s lifestyle boutique stores and dealerships, and did not exceed a price tag of €1,500.

The partnership was extended in late 2017 to run until June 30, 2022. Movado retained the right to sell off remaining inventory until December 31 of that year. Scuderia Ferrari was sponsored by Richard Mille by this time.
