Christopher Ward is a British watch company that was founded in 2004 by Christopher Ward, Mike France, and Peter Ellis while on a boat. Christopher Ward was established as the “world’s first exclusively online luxury watch brand”, with a focus on selling affordable luxury watches directly to consumers. A decade after the company’s founding, Christopher Ward merged with Synergies Horlogères SA to create Christopher Ward London Holdings Ltd. In addition to in-house movements, Christopher Ward watches are also powered by ETA, Ronda, and Sellita movements.
First F1 Win by a British Constructor
The Christopher Ward Limited Edition C70 VW4 Chronometer was released in 2013, and inspired by the first ever Formula 1 race win by a British constructor at the 1957 British Grand Prix. The drivers were Sir Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks, and the car was the Vanwall VW5.
The British racing green dial prominently features the winning car’s number 20 at the 12 o’clock position with yellow accents. “Moss/Brooks” is engraved on the case back, along with “First All British World Championship Race Win 1957”, and with the British flag in the center.
While no official licensing appears to be involved, the case back engraving represents a level of historical specificity not typically found in “inspired by” models.
Racing Stories: Lotus
The Christopher Ward website also features Loupe Magazine, which has previously included racing-related stories such as Smoking Thrills: The Story of the JPS Lotus Team.
