Fortis was founded in 1912 by Walter Vogt, and headquartered in Grenchen, Switzerland. The brand notably worked with John Harwood, inventor of the first wristwatch, to release the Harwood Automatic in 1926. Fortis is also known for the Cosmonauts Chronograph, which has positioned the brand as the exclusive supplier of the Russian Federal Space Agency.
Fortis was acquired by Jupp Philipp in 2017, with the official name being changed from FORTIS Uhren AG into FORTIS Watches AG.
Ducati Corse
Fortis has worked with Ducati to create a number of Ducati Corse edition watches starting in the late 1990s. Some models were marketed as World Champion editions, which likely commemorated Carl Fogarty and his World Superbike Championship titles. At least one World Ducati Week edition was also produced, which marked the debut of an event that would in later years be attended by MotoGP riders.
Ducati did not make a return to Grand Prix racing until their 2003 MotoGP entry with Troy Bayliss and Loris Capirossi. However, Ducati’s MotoGP involvement has since fallen under the Ducati Corse umbrella.
